A missing flag and a broken post are different problems. Before buying a replacement mailbox, check whether the damage affects a replaceable part, the box itself, or the support. That distinction helps you avoid paying for a whole new setup when a compatible repair will do.

When a repair may be enough

A loose bracket, missing number, worn hinge, or broken flag may be repairable when the mailbox body and post are sound. Replacement parts need to fit the exact model. Send a photo of the label, mounting pattern, and damaged part rather than assuming a generic repair kit will fit.

When replacement deserves a closer look

• The post is rotten, cracked, bent, or unstable at the ground.
• The box is rusted through or the body is badly distorted.
• The door cannot close because the box is out of shape.
• Impact damaged both the box and its support.
• The current setup does not match an approved neighborhood specification.

For a leaning brick column, treat the structure as a separate concern. Replacing the metal insert does not address movement in the column or footing. Request an assessment of the whole structure before choosing the repair.

Replacing the setup without surprises

Confirm the new model, complete mounting kit, existing footing, and desired placement before installation. If the old box is set in masonry or oversized concrete, a standard post-removal price may not apply. Keep photos of the original damage and take wide views showing the curb and support. Tell your installer if pieces remain below ground.
