Ask for the actual specification

• Approved manufacturer and model, or an exact description.
• Post or pedestal design, finish, and color.
• Address-number size, color, and location.
• Brick, stone, cap, or insert requirements for masonry.
• Application, drawing, or approval steps before work.
• Who owns or maintains the mailbox if it is shared.

A neighboring mailbox photo helps an installer identify the appearance, but the installed example may be an older style or a previously approved exception. Confirm the specification with the HOA or management company before buying a replacement.

Separate design approval from delivery placement

HOA approval addresses community requirements. USPS controls delivery arrangements, and the local postmaster should guide a change in delivery position or type. A style approved by the HOA does not automatically approve moving a mailbox or replacing a cluster box with an individual curbside box.
